Where I’m Sourcing Inspiration for Our New Home

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a few weeks now and time has slipped away from me with moving, renovations, and work. It’s been so nice connecting with so many of you since announcing that we bought a home on the decisions we’re considering, receiving your feedback, and hearing sweet stories about your own homes! It makes this whole blogging and social media thing so much more meaningful.

Having several months to dream and collect ideas before closing was extremely helpful and fun. There are a lot aspects of it that make our hearts light up with joy. There are also several big projects we’ll be working towards for many years I’m sure. Our house is a traditional tudor and looks out over a small lake–major perk! It’s in great condition, so the plan is to marry it’s original character with our own style (not to change it completely). I’m enjoying stretching myself and expanding my style to compliment the classic beauty and bones of the home.

Instagram is such a lovely platform for following all of my favorite designers and brands in the interior space. I love a simple, unfussy, neutral interior, but I’ve recently been drawn to a more moody aesthetic. Warm, approachable, lived-in is the vibe I’m aiming for with our home. The ultimate goal is for each space to be timeless and beautiful, while still being functional for our family.

Jean Stoffer, DISC Interiors, Amber Interiors are doing incredible things in the design world right now. Layering old/vintage items with the new is something that brings so much depth to a space, and all of these designers do it so well.

Colin King and Jake Arnold are two designers I’m getting a ton of inspiration from lately. Everything they create is pure gold. I first found Jake through Kathrine Power’s home tour article on Architectural Digest. It’s so, so good. And Colin’s kitchen design for Athena Cadera of Eyeswoon has been a long-time favorite of mine.

As for publications, I’m heavily influenced and constantly in awe of the work and stories in Architectural Digest. Definitely a classic and favorite source. Most recently, I’ve been stumbling across a lot of really beautiful images from Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle Magazine. The south just gets architecture right! I’m so drawn to the charm and character of the homes in Atlanta.

We’re essentially starting from scratch with furniture, so designing and decorating this home is going to be a slow game. But the plan is to be thoughtful about how it’s done and what we choose to bring into the house. Furniture is an investment and we want to love it for a long time. I’m keeping a collection of home decor I find and love here.

So that’s it for now! I’d love to hear where you like to look to for inspiration for your own home. And of course, I’ll be pinning all the things over on Pinterest. So you can stay up to date on my current finds there.
