Zach and I took a quick trip to Seattle for one of his races over the weekend. He runs semi-professionally, which takes him all over the U.S., so I occasionally like to tag along to support him and we make a vacation out of it! We’d planned on being there for four days instead of three, but our flight was cancelled due to a snowstorm and we had to skip out early. The weather was a bit of an obstacle. Lots of restaurants were shut down and Ubers were hard to come by, but we made it work. We pretty much just ate and drank our way through the city, in typical tourist fashion. I’m already planning a trip back in my head to do the hiking, shopping, and exploring we didn’t get to this time around.
The London Plane
We went to Pioneer Square on our first morning and ate breakfast at The London Plane. We loved the food (especially the fresh bread with sea salt butter – so simple, but so good!), and loved the charming, bright atmosphere even more. Anywhere that combines brunch food and a floral shop is a favorite in my book.
Slate Coffee Roasters
Coffee is always an important factor wherever we visit. Slate has a few different locations around the city, all equally as beautiful, with their minimalistic vibes and amazing coffee.
Umi Sake House
Zach and I both agreed that the sushi at Umi Sake House was the best we’ve ever had. The interior is warm and modern—the perfect date night spot. We shared edamame and the seaweed salad (my fave) to start. I ordered a roll with snow crab and Zach got the chef’s selection of sashimi, which wound up being the highlight of the meal.
Bathtub Gin and Co.
I always love a good speakeasy experience in other cities, and Bathtub Gin and Co. did not disappoint. We grabbed a drink here before dinner one night and both loved the cocktails we tried. The place is small and intimate and the drink list is full of yummy concoctions.
Pike Place Market
An attraction not to miss, Pike Place is full of food and craft vendors. We grabbed lattes at Storyville and walked around, watching the flying fish and taking in the waterfront views. I’m sure this area is much more lively when it’s not storming. I’d love to come back during spring, when the tulips are in abundance.
Other places of note: Morsel (biscuit sandwiches), The Pink Door (great Italian), General Porpoise Donuts, and Lady Yum (the cutest French macaron spot).
