It’s hard for me to believe a whole year has gone by since Gemma was born. It’s true what they say, “the days are long, but the years are short.” I’ve learned so much about myself and her this past year, and had the best time planning her big day. We had the sweetest summer afternoon celebrating our girl with close family.
I decided on a loose theme of “garden party” and made sure there were plenty of florals, pattern, tea, and small treats. It was a low-key, no-fuss kind of event.
THE DECOR
This block-printed tablecloth was a favorite piece from the day that I’ll be using again.
I ordered these sweet floral plates and napkins from MeriMeri–their party decor is so sophisticated and beautiful. I also printed photos of Gemma at each month from birth to one year and it was fun to see them all lined up along the mantle–she’s changed so much.
THE FOOD
I wanted to be able to enjoy a stress-free morning with my birthday girl, so I catered lunch in aside from fruit, veggies and the cupcakes I made the day before. I made white almond cupcakes with buttercream frosting and decorated the top of each one with edible flowers (found on Etsy). They were simple and so pretty. My friend Liz also made floral sugar cookies for us that were incredible.
THE FUN
There was a bounce house, bubbles, and a game of corn hole for outside entertainment. Gemma really enjoyed playing with her cousins, opening gifts, and eating her first cupcake. It was the best day!
