Choosing a Neutral Linen Sofa

Williams Sonoma Laguna Sofa

There are quite a few decisions to factor in when purchasing a large piece of furniture like a sofa. When we started looking for ours, I had an idea of what I wanted and what would work in our space, but I scoured the internet to weigh in on every option.

The main differences I took into consideration in our sofa were slipcover vs. no slipcover, track arm vs. rolled arm, bench seating vs. multiple cushions, fabric options, and dimensions.

Aesthetically, I wanted something classic, relaxed, neutral, and oversized. It needed to be a sofa you could sink into and that would make everyone who sat in the space feel at home. Ultimately, a bench seat, large cushions, a deep seat, and linen upholstery were details that would give it that classic yet casual vibe. Having so many requirements in a sofa when looking at box stores as opposed to going custom can be tricky. But I found a lot of beautiful ones in the process!

We chose the Laguna sofa from Williams Sonoma Home because we were able to customize it to fit our needs. I really loved options from Lulu & Georgia and Arhaus as well. But we’re very happy with the one we chose. It fits our long, narrow room perfectly and so far it’s held up incredibly well.

I polled Instagram back in July when we were trying to make our decision, and I heard a lot of great things about options from Z Gallerie, Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, and Interior Define as well. Since I’d already done most of the research, I put together a list of neutral sofa options we loved and considered in the case that some of you were in the market for something similar.
