One of the final touches of the living room was completed last week, with the addition of a new side table. When I was on the hunt, I found a ton of great options at different price points. Side tables not only add function to a space, but can really enhance the character and style of the room too. They’re pieces you can have fun with and even move around to different spaces in your home over time. Because it is an accent piece, I wouldn’t say it’s something you need to allocate a large portion of your budget to. Save your money for the key pieces that will get the most use and/or be the focal point in the room.
I’m in love with the playful silhouette of this matchstick table and the way it brings a bit of feminine energy to space. Antique brass is a finish I’m using throughout the house in small doses and it’s already added a lot of interest to the living room.
My design rule of thumb is that each seat in the room should have a place to rest a drink within arm’s distance. A side table’s height should be within a few inches of the height of your sofa. You typically want to look for something that is at least 27 to 30 inches high.
I’m still on the hunt for something vintage for the opposite side of the sofa. I have a post in the works on my favorite places to shop for vintage accent pieces and plan to push it live soon! Do you like these kinds of roundups? I have a few others in the works for other items I’ve found for our home recently that I think would be helpful for you if you’re in the market. Would love to know what you think and what you’re shopping for!
